'Twas the night before the first day of school
& all through the town,
The mothers were grinning
while setting their margarita glasses down.
The children were nervous, excited, & sad
Summer had ended; 'twas learnin' to be had.
The back packs were filled with notebooks
while Mama fussed
Over 27 glue sticks that the teachers said were a must.
The lunch bags were filled with healthy food galore,
Things the kids would soon find a bore.
These stay at home Mamas smiled
as they thought of their plan:
To simply pee with no one barging in on her in the can.
Their one big goal for tomorrow's to-do list:
Take a nap & catch up on the sleep they'd missed.
All summer these Mamas gave the kids their all,
They hosted sleep overs & refereed
countless a sibling brawl.
Tomorrow is the day that the exhausted Mamas hold dear,
For tomorrow is the beginning of a new school year.
