Just a snippet of the description of this lovely beetle (to make you want to read more)...
Male seed beetles have spectacularly harmful penises covered in sharp spikes. These help the male’s chances of fertilizing the eggs by providing an anchor, but can also pierce the female during sex, causing injury.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why God created this one. Or the Walking Stick bug thing. When I was a kid I thought they were fascinating. My cousin, on the other hand, thought they were the scariest thing she'd ever seen and would run screaming from them. How does a bug shaped like wood scare a person? And why did God create a bug shaped like wood? And why haven't I seen one since I was a kid? They are real, right? Sometimes my dreams are so real, I don't know the difference.
What if a Walking Stick bug thing had a spiked penis? That would scare me. A Spiked Walking Stick bug. I guess you could just sand it down to make it not spiked.
When these beetles are in the shower after gym class, do the beetles with more spikes make fun of the one with less spikes? Do their spikes ever fall off? If they have sons without spikes, are the Daddy beetles ashamed? Do the female beetles sit around bragging about how much padding they have in their reproductive areas?
These are things I will never know the answers to.
